The Remedy for Negative Prospects, Hard Work, Long Hours and Low Pay
I wish I could say that the first time I saw Social Media I undoubtedly thought to myself, “THAT. That is the future of sales and marketing.”
Or the second time.
Or the third.
Or the 50th.
The fact of the matter is that I was a slow adapter to Facebook and LinkedIn and even slower to Instagram and Twitter. In fact, it was my wife that got me on the Social Media bandwagon by guilting me into creating a Facebook account. Her reasoning – if it was important to her, it should be important to me. Of course, I kicked and screamed. And told her that as the Internet Manager at the dealership I sit in front of a computer all day. And that thee last thing I wanted to do was to have another “computer thing” to suck my precious time.
As often happens in my marriage, I realized I was wrong and she was right. Again. I created a Facebook account in late 2008 and then I was off to the races.
Ok, not exactly. It took me 4 more years to realize that I needed a business page so I could spread Jeep love to the masses. And then I was off to the races. My Jeep Guy Page (facebook.com/kevinthejeepguy) was quickly followed by an Instagram account and a Twitter account.
As my online visibility increased, so did my opportunity to meet new people and sell more vehicles.
And in early 2015, two career changing things happened.
I realized that competing with multiple sales people at other dealerships to sell a truck to a customer shopping 9 dealers representing 4 brands across 4 states was not a great business model.
I also realized – and I would hear Jon Ferrara say exactly the same thing shortly thereafter – my customers do not live in my CRM. They live on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Gmail. And I needed a way to organize all of this “stuff.” This awareness had been creeping into my consciousness since late 2012.
So I won’t bore you with my numerous starts and stops with multiple CRMs. But I will tell you this – I finally selected Nimble because it is completely DIFFERENT than any other software/system/CRM that I have ever used.
And here is why…
The Nimble plug-in goes where I go. In other words, I do not have to work in Nimble to reap the benefits of tons of info at my fingertips. The plug-in takes all of that awesomeness with me. And that is not even the best part. At the end of the day, when I have interacted hundreds of times with dozens of customers across multiple platforms, I can see it all in one place. My Nimble homepage.
The Nimble app has brought information gathering to a whole new level. I no longer Google people or plug their email into Facebook to see what and who we have in common. Instead, I simply hover over their name and Nimble builds a whole social profile for me on the fly. Just like that. I no longer “Google” people. Instead, I “Nimble” them.
May 2015 marked the second full month since I left my position as the Internet Manager and moved back onto the sales floor. With the help of Nimble I have gone completely organic and I now spend my day almost exclusively with previous customers and referrals. Those opportunities have been mostly generated through social media or over the phone.
And the results? They actually have been pretty remarkable. But don’t focus on what I am doing with Nimble. Rather, consider what it could mean to your business to have your entire Social world in one place and at your finger tips. And then get started with Nimble. Tell them Kevin the Jeep Guy sent you.
And Have Fun Out There!
